Sycamore

One of the largest eastern hardwood species, Sycamore is a popular shade tree. Because of its unusual interlocking grain, which reveals a speckled pattering when quarter-sawn, it is difficult to split, and for that reason has traditionally been used in butcher blocks, handles, boxes, and woodenware. It is a close-grained wood, with a pink/reddish brown coloring in the heartwood, and an ivory white in the sapwood.
